His Christian faith, fine art and history are the primary interests that inspire Jack in his passion to create unique and meaningful art. Employing a representational style, he varies the mediums of pen and ink, oils and pencil. Primarily a portrait painter, Jack’s subjects include historical figures as well as contemporary. Additionally, he enjoys still life and landscape work.
Born and raised in Memphis, TN Jack earned his BS degree in mathematics from Memphis State University, minoring in drawing and painting. Having joined the Navy, he was designated a naval aviator in 1972. During a break in his nine years of service, Jack furthered his art training in both commercial art and advanced illustration at the Burnley School of Professional Art as well as The New School of Visual Concepts, both in Seattle.
In 1985 Jack began a 22-year flying career with a major commercial airline. Following his retirement he studied the principles of classical realism with his mentor, Henry Wingate, both in Virginia and Italy. Continuing to hone his skills, Jack has also taken workshops with Tony Ryder, Robert Liberace, Colleen Berry and Will St. John.
Working in his Shenandoah Valley home studio enables Jack to remain closely connected with Karen, his wife of over 40 years and most valuable critic. They enjoy time with their three children and four grandchildren (and counting). Jack is represented by Imagine Art Gallery in Smithfield, VA and Lord Nelson’s Gallery in Gettysburg, PA.
